Biological oxidation is a process in which microorganisms consume dissolved oxygen and organic or inorganic substances in foul air streams. The energy released during this process converts carbon into carbon dioxide and cellular material.
Biological odor control systems achieve odor removal through a two-step process:
  1. Mass transfer absorption through contact between the air stream and the biofilm on the packing material inside the vessel.
  2. Biological oxidation of odor compounds by the biomass.
